ABOUT

Born and raised in Towson, Md, John McQuade graduated from Yale University in 1969, and then received his MD from Yale University School of Medicine. He began what has become a 50 year love affair with the profession of medicine. He moved to the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 1973 to complete his internship and residency in internal medicine and fellowship in Cardiology. In 1978, he started private practice in New Bern where he has been actively practicing medicine ever since.
John’s love of photography started in 1980 when he participated in a large format photography workshop with noted black and white photographer, Fred Picker. From that point on he has avidly pursued fine art photography, concentrating on landscape, macrophotography, and portraiture. Although photography has taken him to many venues inside as well as outside the United States, he has always felt that his best images have almost invariably been made in our great state of North Carolina.

For the future, in addition to ongoing print production, he plans to concentrate on combining photography with book making —- handmade as well as more traditional book publishing format. He has also been nurturing a deep interest in photoencaustic art.
